Making the Ordinary, Extraordinary

Frozen In Time

A quick idea for today: freezing eggs. If you can buy a few more eggs on sale, or somehow you’ve got hens laying a bumper crop (if you do, I can bet you don’t live within an hour of me!) you can freeze them. You can freeze them in their shells tonight, then peel off the shell in the morning.

frozen eggsThey look kind of fascinating, don’t they? When you are ready to use them again, you can thaw the number you need in the refrigerator the day before. They work great in omelettes, fritattas, scrambled eggs, quiches, and most other savory egg based dishes. You probably don’t want them for sunny side up eggs or baked goods, though, as they cook a little bit flatter than they normally would.

I never would have thought to freeze eggs… but then again, I don’t see why you couldn’t. Interesting idea!

  2. I have never thought about doing this. It seems strange, but I’m willing to give it a try! Pinning!

It is a little strange, but it works for every type of baking and cooking a person might do besides plain eggs- it doesn’t sunny side up very well after freezing.
